New York, September 21, 2025 - The Jornada COP+, a multi-sector initiative led by the Federation of Industries of the State of Pará (FIEPA), will publish the document “Guidelines for a Low-Carbon Industry in the Amazon” in the Climate Week NYC. The document is the result of the work carried out by the initiative’s committees and brings together industry proposals for a new environmental, social, and economic agenda in the Brazilian Amazon.
Climate Week NYC, the world’s leading climate action event, takes place from September 21 to 28 and gathers global leaders from business, government, the United Nations, academia, and civil society for discussions and agreements aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The Jornada COP+ and FIEPA delegation will be led by the Federation’s president, Alex Carvalho. For him, this is the moment for the amazonian industry to take a stand. “No global climate decision will be complete if it does not consider the Brazilian Amazon, with its diversity of territories, cultures, and, above all, people. And as a productive sector, we are aware of our responsibility to propose concrete solutions based on decarbonization, the bioeconomy, and a development model that combines economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental conservation,” said Carvalho.
The participation is in partnership with the Sustainable Business COP30, promoted by the Brazilian National Confederation of Industry (CNI), which seeks to expand the qualified presence of Brazilian industry in climate negotiations. According to CNI’s Superintendent of Environment and Sustainability, Davi Bomtempo, the event is a strategic step toward the upcoming COP30 in Belém. “It is an opportunity to strengthen industry engagement and reaffirm that Brazilian companies are willing to contribute global-scale solutions for climate transition,” he said.
Document outlines ten recommendations for the green economy
The “Guidelines for a Low-Carbon Industry in the Amazon” consolidate proposals from ten Jornada COP+ working groups: communication and advocacy, infrastructure and logistics, investment attraction, low-carbon economy, women and traditional communities, bioeconomy, circular economy, digital transformation and innovation, energy transition, and value-chain traceability.
The guidelines were developed under the leadership of 11 experts and involved 180 participants and 153 organizations from more than 30 sectors. Ten main strategic recommendations were developed, considered essential for advancing sustainability:
● Decarbonize the energy matrix with sustainable biomass;
● Strengthen value-chain traceability;
● Consolidate the circular economy as a structural axis;
● Structuring the Amazon socio-bioeconomy;
● Expand the protagonism of women and traditional communities of the Amazon
● Attract green investments;
● Expand digital inclusion and infrastructure;
● Expand and modernize intermodal infrastructure and strengthen renewable energy;
● Unity for the reputation of the Amazon;
● Empower business owners and teams in low-carbon strategies.

The guidelines represent Amazonian industry’s contribution to the Legacies Document of the Sustainable Business COP30 (SB COP), which will bring together private sector proposals, experiences, and solutions for a low-carbon economy. “The document points the direction for the industry to move towards a more sustainable, more circular, and truly greener economy,” explained Deryck Martins, technical coordinator of the Jornada COP+.
In New York, the Jornada COP+ will also present a letter of commitment aligned with the guidelines. “Our goal has always been much more than preparing to host COP30. We see it as a historic opportunity to collectively build a new economic, social, and environmental agenda for the Brazilian Amazon” added Carvalho.
