Last Wednesday (17th), the domestic composting workshop of the Bora Compostar project was held at the Espaço Aperfeiçoar, IEL. The event was aimed at employees of the FIEPA System, who had the opportunity to learn more about the composting process on both large and small scales, as well as discover the outcomes of the initiative within the Federation.
The Bora Compostar project, carried out by FIEPA in partnership with the company Origem 56 – Engineering and Environment, has already collected 258.38 kg of organic waste, which were transformed into 114.15 kg of organic fertilizer used in the Federation's gardens.

‘Half of the waste generated by each person is organic. Currently, a large portion of this waste is improperly disposed of, causing various environmental liabilities for society as a whole. Domestic composting addresses at least half of the waste management problem in a cheap and practical way. It is a small individual action that results in a large collective positive impact,’ highlighted Joana Massari Anschau, Executive Director of Origem 56.
Composting is part of the Industry + Sustainable Program, which encompasses a series of actions by FIEPA that aim to balance economic development, social responsibility, and environmental preservation. According to the President of the FIEPA Environmental and Sustainability Council, Deryck Martins, the workshop was a way to bring good practices to the employees of the System.
‘This action reinforces our commitment to sustainability and social-environmental responsibility by encouraging conscious practices that reduce environmental impacts and engage our professionals in building a more balanced and responsible future,’ emphasized Deryck.

Participants had the opportunity to ask questions, put theory into practice, and build two domestic composters, which were raffled off at the end of the workshop along with packages of organic fertilizers and biofertilizers.
For financial analyst Edda Sena, the workshop was an opportunity to assemble a composter, a practice she had already been interested in. 'I thought the workshop was great. I had already taken an online course and thought it was fantastic, so when the opportunity came to do it in person, I rushed to sign up and invited my colleagues as well,' Edda commented.
