A strategic partnership between the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the SENAI National Department was announced, this Wednesday (12), at the stand of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), in the Blue Zone pavilion of COP30, in Belém.
The Priority Program of National Interest in Bioinformatics (PPI BioinfoBR) was created with the focus of structuring a national system of bioinformatics applied to industry, to strengthen Brazil's leadership in the bioeconomy and promote sustainable innovation in sectors such as agribusiness, health, energy, biotechnology and food.
Representing the CNI (National Confederation of Industry), Alex Carvalho, president of the Federation of Industries of the State of Pará (FIEPA), highlighted the positive impact of the project. “This partnership is a great initiative that will accelerate technological innovation and digitalization processes in Brazilian industry. Bioinformatics can leverage new axes of development and applied research, in addition to decentralizing innovation ecosystems, which are currently highly concentrated in the South and Southeast. We are on the right track,” he stated.
According to the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), Luciana Santos, the program is part of a broader vision that unites science, technology and industry in favor of social inclusion and sustainable development.
“We achieved the goal of reducing deforestation in the Amazon by 50% in three years. This result is a product of investment in science, technology, and national intelligence,” she highlighted. Luciana also announced investments that will expand basic sanitation coverage in Belém by 30%, a measure that, according to her, will be a concrete legacy of COP30 for the capital of Pará. “Improving sanitation is a priority and is directly linked to the well-being and health of the population,” the minister pointed out.
The PPI BioinfoBR will be implemented in an integrated manner, promoting research, development and innovation (R&D&I), professional training and international cooperation, with the aim of increasing Brazilian competitiveness in strategic supply chains and ensuring technological sovereignty in areas critical to the country's ecological and energy transition.
