In the Seventh Letter from the COP30 Presidency to the Brazilian and international community, Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, the conference’s designated president, called on the private sector to support the Climate Action Agenda and to participate in COP30 in Belém. The invitation aligns with the multisector movement underway in the Brazilian Amazon: the COP+ Journey. Led by the Federation of Industries of the State of Pará (FIEPA) since May 2024, this initiative has mobilized the sector around the goal of a just transition for the region.
A range of actions—before, during, and after the conference—aim to leave a true legacy of transformation toward sustainable development. During COP30, the COP+ Journey will coordinate the Brazilian Industry Hub, a convergence point for industry with high-impact panels, strategic announcements, and project launches. Among these will be the Forum of Excellence, where innovative and sustainable business initiatives from the region will be showcased to the world. Applications to submit cases are open on FIEPA’s website.
COP30 Presidency Invites the Private Sector
The seventh letter from the COP30 Presidency identifies the private sector as an indispensable partner in implementing the Climate Action Agenda through public-private collaboration.
“In Belém, the private sector will have an unprecedented opportunity to lead the world with speed and scale. We are calling on companies to participate and engage with credible solutions, partnerships, investments, and ideas [...] We invite the private sector—CEOs, investors, innovators, entrepreneurs—to join us. Come to Belém, bring and discover solutions, collaborate and contribute. Companies can show the world the true meaning of climate leadership,” the document urges.
The Climate Action Agenda, launched by the COP30 Presidency, provides for the implementation of commitments made at previous COPs and is structured into six thematic pillars and 30 key objectives. These range from tripling renewable energy capacity and regenerating ecosystems to building resilient cities and accelerating access to sustainable financing and artificial intelligence.
For the COP30 Presidency, this is the time for the private sector to act, speeding the transition and deepening its engagement. According to the letter, COP30 could become the world’s largest platform for transformative climate solutions, where companies and other actors will help shape the future global economy.
“COP30 must take a decisive step from promise to implementation, aligning incentives, fostering innovation, and revitalizing public-private collaboration, translating past commitments into tangible results that deliver real benefits to people and improve lives,” the seventh letter states.
Pará’s Industry Already Mobilized
For Alex Carvalho, president of FIEPA and of the COP+ Journey, the letter reinforces a mobilization already in progress. “Within the COP+ Journey, we have worked hard on this engagement and collective mobilization. The Federation leads an unprecedented movement that unites the business sector, academia, and the third sector around broad and dynamic discussions. We are very pleased to see the ambassador’s call for engagement,” he notes.
According to Carvalho, the participation of the productive sector is essential for effective climate dialogue. “For the discussion to be effective, it must include different viewpoints and, above all, be guided by common sense and balance. The business movement is key to sustainable development in our country,” he affirms.
The sector’s proposals for a just transition will be consolidated in the document “Guidelines for a Low-Carbon Industry,” developed from discussions within COP+ Journey working groups. “The industrial sector of the Amazon territory will be represented in the contributions we will make in partnership with SB COP, mentioned by the president in the letter, which will provide national and global inputs,” Carvalho explains, referring to Sustainable Business COP30, an initiative of CNI and a COP+ Journey partner.
COP+ Journey to Engage Industry During the Conference

During COP30, the COP+ Journey will host the Brazilian Industry Hub, which will organize and welcome numerous events, including those of SBCOP. In total, there will be 18 venues with diverse activities: the new Albano Franco Auditorium, FIEPA’s Events Hall, the Industry Observatory, the Creative Industry House, the SESI Theater, the SENAI Auditorium, as well as meeting rooms and other spaces. This entire ecosystem will be a convergence point for industry, bringing together business leaders from around the world.
The COP+ Journey is also creating the Showcase of Sustainable Industry Cases, highlighting business initiatives and projects that are driving the Amazon’s transformation before, during, and after COP30. The best cases will be presented during the Forum of Excellence, a side event of the world conference. Industrial companies of all sizes and sectors, unions, associations, cooperatives, startups, and other organizations linked to the industrial sector, as well as public agencies, are invited to participate. Applications are open until September 30, 2025 at fiepa.org.br/copmais.
Alex Carvalho explains that this initiative reflects the movement’s purpose: “It reinforces the commitment to best practices that need to resonate, because the path to sustainable development requires integrating the environmental sustainability agenda with social and economic agendas.”
For Deryck Martins, technical coordinator of the COP+ Journey, the selection also aims to scale up sustainable practices. “The call for submissions mainly serves two purposes: to give visibility to successful projects and practices and to inspire other industries to replicate them. Often, by following an established path, other companies can see the processes and bring these solutions into their own reality,” he points out.
The COP+ Journey is organized by the Federation of Industries of the State of Pará (FIEPA), CNI, and Instituto Amazônia+21, with support from Ação Pró-Amazônia, the Amazon Legal Consortium, SESI, SENAI, IEL, the Brazilian Chamber of the Construction Industry (CBIC), and the Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy (ABSOLAR). The project’s co-organizer is Hydro, with super master sponsorship from Vale and Albras, and premium sponsorship from Guamá Waste Treatment, Bayer, and Sinobras.
