Sustainable financing, low-carbon housing, bioeconomy and regenerative agriculture were some of the topics discussed this Thursday (13), at the headquarters of the Federation of Industries of the State of Pará (FIEPA), during an event promoted by the Amazon+21 Institute and the Sustainable Investment Facility (FAIS). The special program during COP 30 aimed to discuss the role of the productive sector and impact investments in building a green economy in the Amazon.
Moderated by Marcelo Thomé, president of the Amazon+21 Institute, FAIS, and the Federation of Industries of the State of Rondônia (FIERO), the opening panel highlighted the role of the private sector in promoting sustainable development.
“The legacy that this year and COP30 in Brazil leave, stemming from the initiative of the National Confederation of Industry, is the demonstration that we were able to rebuild a global mobilization involving more than 60 countries and 40 million companies to show, from the private sector and our actions in different agendas and countries, that sustainability is, indeed, good business. Addressing climate change is fundamental to guaranteeing productive capacity, even when we look only from an economic perspective,” stated Thomé.
During At the event, the president of FIEPA, Alex Carvalho, argued that the partnership with the Institute is important so that the proposals presented during COP can be put into practice, providing resources and incentives for the development of industries in the Amazon.
“The Amazon is a territory of contradictions and challenges, but also a giant of opportunities. The time has come to transform discourse into practice. We need concrete actions, collective effort, and courage to face reality. FIEPA, the COP+ Journey, the Amazon+21 Institute, and the network of partners we have built have this role: to connect, mobilize, and deliver results. We don't just want to debate; we want to make things happen. And that's exactly what we're going to do,” stated the president of FIEPA.
In this sense, one of the initiatives presented in Belém was the Travessia Fund, developed by the Instituto Amazônia+21, in partnership with Sebrae Nacional, Facility, and FIEPA, to boost the sustainable development of the Amazon by supporting micro and small businesses in the Amazonian bioeconomy. With capital from FIEPA, the fund will have a specific call for proposals for the state of Pará, aimed at the local productive base of the bioeconomy. The objective is to stimulate the formation of new sustainable industries, strengthen the innovation ecosystem, and demonstrate that it is possible to build a new model of economic and social development based on the forest and sustainability.
“After learning about the portfolio of solutions offered by the Amazon+21 Institute, I was excited about the possibility of bringing a concrete alternative to boost development, based on capital resulting from efficient and responsible management by the Federation. We want to support companies in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, fruits, and other nature-based industries, expanding access to instruments that stimulate sustainable growth. With governance and networking capabilities, we want to involve our partners and jointly assume the responsibility of opening new avenues for capital and supporting our local industries. I am confident that this initiative represents a true paradigm shift for the Amazon,” assessed Alex Carvalho.
At FIEPA, the program also addressed the Morar Amazônico project, which uses responsibly sourced engineered wood in sustainable housing, and the Rural+Verde program, which integrates family farmers and rural settlements in the transition to regenerative production practices. The closing was dedicated to the screening of the trailer for the documentary series "Amazônia(s): A New Way of Walking," co-produced by INTRO Pictures, Istambul Filmes, and Instituto Amazônia+21, with sponsorship from IBM and Ultragaz. The production, which will be broadcast by Rede Amazônica (TV Globo) through the Amazon Sat channel , presents real stories of innovation and social impact in the region, showing how science, business, and communities are shaping a new development model for the forest.
Sustainable Investment Facility
The Sustainable Investment Facility is a platform of the Amazon+21 Institute launched in 2024 to connect Amazonian entrepreneurs with national and international investors interested in socio-environmental impact businesses. The tool operates through blended finance . The intention is to raise R$ 600 million in the first three years. Over 10 years, the goal is to reach R$ 4 billion. CNI is the first institution to invest in the fund, purchasing one of the ten pioneering shares for R$ 2 million.
On November 10th, the Instituto Amazônia+21 announced a R$ 2 million investment from Sebrae in the Investment Facility. The announcement took place at the CNI booth in the Blue Zone at COP30 in Belém.
