Brazil's potential, especially in the Amazon region, for a just energy transition and its leading role in sustainable development were the key points highlighted at the opening of the National Confederation of Industry's (CNI) stand in the Blue Zone of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) on Tuesday (November 11).
During the opening of the central space for the Brazilian productive sector, Alex Carvalho, president of the Federation of Industries of the State of Pará and of the COP+ Journey, a movement led by the federation, highlighted the potential of the Amazonian industry in leading a greener economy and a just energy transition.
“We are always portrayed as the country of tomorrow, but a nation isn't built by thinking about tomorrow. We need a country that thinks and plans. We have the advantage and maturity to lead a socio-economic, environmentally sound, and sustainable development agenda. We need to understand that Brazil is one country, and there is no longer room for colonialism, neocolonialism, or segregation among ourselves. The opportunity is before us. We are very eager and hopeful that COP will open a curtain and a window to a new Brazil,” concluded the president of FIEPA.
On that occasion, the president of the CNI, Ricardo Alban, reaffirmed his satisfaction at being in Belém for COP30, debating topics so relevant to Brazil and the world.
"Brazil cannot waste opportunities that are presenting themselves to regions that need social development. The Equatorial Margin is a possibility to reduce these inequalities, and it needs to be done in a technical way, with the possibility of dialogue," he emphasized.
