Belém has gained a new space dedicated to culture, innovation and the creative economy. This Sunday (09), the Casa SESI Indústria Criativa was officially inaugurated, an initiative promoted by the Federation of Industries of the State of Pará System (FIEPA System), through the Social Service of Industry (SESI), with the support of the National Council of SESI and the National Confederation of Industry (CNI).

Located in a historic mansion on Avenida Comandante Brás de Aguiar, the Casa underwent a meticulous restoration process that preserved the original characteristics of the property, one of the architectural landmarks of the Belle Époque period in Pará, and transformed it into a center focused on promoting creativity, sustainability, and knowledge.

The new space will host exhibitions, workshops, and activities focused on promoting Amazonian culture and fostering new connections between art, technology, and industry. During the ceremony, leaders of the Industry System highlighted the symbolic and strategic significance of the opening, which reaffirms the commitment of SESI and national industry to sustainable development and the promotion of regional identity.

According to Alex Carvalho, president of the FIEPA System and Regional Director of SESI Pará, this moment represents a turning point between the past and the future. “The SESI Creative Industry House represents the meeting point between historical heritage and the future. This is a space where art, innovation, and education come together to inspire new ways of thinking and building the development of Pará,” he emphasized.

The superintendent of SESI Pará, Dário Lemos, reinforced the social and integrative role of the initiative. “More than just a restored building, the SESI Creative Industry House is a vibrant space, created to strengthen the dialogue between industry and society, bringing together scientific knowledge, culture, and the creative potential of our region,” he stated.

Exhibitions

In its debut, the House presents four simultaneous exhibitions to the public: the "Casa SESI" exhibition, which reveals the history of the property; the immersive exhibition "Im-PARÁ-veis," directed by the Pará-born visual artist Roberta Carvalho; the "Jewels of the Amazon" project, featuring bio-jewels produced by local artisans using elements of biodiversity—conceived by the Elabora Social Institute, sponsored by Hydro and with institutional support from the FIEPA System, Jornada COP+, Ebata, and Aimex; and the "Upcycling SENAI" exhibition, developed in partnership with the Federal Revenue Service and SENAI Pará, dedicated to the circular economy and waste reduction.

National commitment to innovation and culture

The president of the CNI (National Confederation of Industry), Ricardo Alban, highlighted that the initiative reinforces the transformative role of industry in the country. “Every industry is important to Brazil. Reviving the past, especially in a historical space like this, is also a way to project the future of our industry—more creative, technological, innovative, and committed to sustainability,” he stated.

The president of the National Council of SESI, Fausto Augusto Júnior, emphasized the symbolic and integrative nature of the handover. “It is a great pleasure to see this project materialized. We were present at all stages of the restoration, and it is exciting to see the house alive again. Culture plays a fundamental role in the cohesion of society and in disseminating the richness of the Amazon. This space is a portal that connects different actors and states, articulating the work of SESI throughout Brazil,” he declared.

The Secretary of Creative Economy of the Ministry of Culture, Cláudia Leitão, congratulated SESI on the initiative and announced a new national action. “I want to congratulate SESI for this inspiring initiative, which places the creative economy at the center of sustainable development. This is the kind of movement we want to see flourish throughout the country. Soon, the Federal Government will launch the National Policy for Creative Economy, strengthening actions like this and recognizing Brazilian creativity as a strategic asset for our future,” she stated.

The Secretary of Culture of Pará, Ursula Vidal, also highlighted the importance of the new space for strengthening the creative economy in the state. “It is a joy to see Belém gain another place that welcomes and promotes cultural activity. Pará has more than one hundred mapped spaces that host events and initiatives of the creative industry, and the SESI Creative Industry House joins this network, opening new possibilities for expression, training, and connections. Belém is a city of the world—diverse, vibrant, and creative—and this space reflects exactly that,” she said.

Open to the public from Tuesday to Friday, from 9 am to 6 pm (with special hours during COP30), the SESI Creative Industry House will function as a center for experimentation, learning and inspiration, with free admission.
