The National Confederation of Industry (CNI) and the Federation of Industries of the State of Pará (FIEPA) held a networking event in Belém on the 10th, bringing together authorities and business leaders to discuss the strategic role of industry in building a low-carbon economy. The event, held at FIEPA headquarters, was part of the COP30 program and was attended by the president of CNI, Ricardo Alban, the governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, and the ministers of Cities, Jader Filho, and Tourism, Celso Sabino, as well as governors from other states in the Legal Amazon, presidents of Federations of Industry from various states, business leaders, and representatives of public and private institutions.

The opening was led by the president of FIEPA, Alex Carvalho, who emphasized the importance of unity between the federative entities and the productive sector in consolidating a sustainable development model in the region.

“It is a great pleasure to welcome everyone here at such an important moment for our state and for Brazil. The holding of COP30 in Belém is the result of courageous leadership, and I want to publicly acknowledge Governor Helder Barbalho, the federal government, and the governors of the Legal Amazon for their dedication and commitment to this agenda. This joint effort inspires and encourages us to be better, to do more for our region. Speaking about FIEPA is also to express this feeling of gratitude and recognition for the collective work that is making the Amazon a protagonist in discussions about the future of the planet,” highlighted Carvalho.

In his speech, Governor Helder Barbalho emphasized the symbolism of choosing Belém as the host city for COP30, highlighting the overcoming of old stigmas and the recognition of the Amazon region's capacity to host a global event.

“Everyone here can see that President Lula’s decision to choose Belém as the host city for COP was the right one. It’s a demonstration that we are capable. We spent a long time under suspicion, when many thought it wouldn’t be possible for Brazil, from the Amazon, to hold an event of this magnitude and scope. Today, Belém turns the page from question mark to exuberance, so that, from the Amazon, we can discuss the environment in a beautiful and welcoming city, thanks to the unity of all the Brazilian people,” declared the governor.

The president of the CNI (National Confederation of Industry), Ricardo Alban, highlighted the importance of joint action between industry, government, and society to drive a new cycle of sustainable growth in the country.

"Thank you very much for being here, for being part of Brazil's new industry, for contributing to the construction of a new model of economic development. Despite our great diversity, we are one country," said Alban.
